Understanding Wheel Offset (ET)
Offset (ET) determines how far in or out a wheel sits. It is the distance from the hub mounting surface to the center line of the wheel.
The Golden Rule
Lower Offset (e.g. ET45 -> ET35) puts the wheel further OUT (towards the fender).
Higher Offset (e.g. ET35 -> ET45) puts the wheel further IN (towards the suspension).
Will it rub?
Outwards (Poke): If the wheel sticks out too far, the tyre will rub against the fender arch when the suspension compresses (going over bumps). This ruins tyres instantly.
Inwards (Inset): If the wheel sits too far in, the inner rim or tyre sidewall will hit the shock absorber or brake caliper. This is catastrophic.
How to use this tool
- Enter Old Specs: Look at the back of your current wheel (e.g. 7.5J ET45).
- Enter New Specs: The wheels you want to buy (e.g. 8.5J ET35).
- Check Clearance:
- If "Inner Clearance" is RED (Less Space), check you have at least 5-10mm gap to the strut currently.
- If "Outer Position" says "Poke more", measure your current fender gap to see if you have room.
