Understanding Wheel Offset (ET)

Offset (ET) determines how far in or out a wheel sits. It is the distance from the hub mounting surface to the center line of the wheel.

The Golden Rule

Lower Offset (e.g. ET45 -> ET35) puts the wheel further OUT (towards the fender).
Higher Offset (e.g. ET35 -> ET45) puts the wheel further IN (towards the suspension).

Will it rub?

Outwards (Poke): If the wheel sticks out too far, the tyre will rub against the fender arch when the suspension compresses (going over bumps). This ruins tyres instantly.

Inwards (Inset): If the wheel sits too far in, the inner rim or tyre sidewall will hit the shock absorber or brake caliper. This is catastrophic.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter Old Specs: Look at the back of your current wheel (e.g. 7.5J ET45).
  2. Enter New Specs: The wheels you want to buy (e.g. 8.5J ET35).
  3. Check Clearance:
    • If "Inner Clearance" is RED (Less Space), check you have at least 5-10mm gap to the strut currently.
    • If "Outer Position" says "Poke more", measure your current fender gap to see if you have room.
